A ten-week interaction design module cooperating with Ruter, a publicly owned company responsible for planning, coordinating, ordering and marketing public transport in Oslo and Viken.

We developed a design proposal for how Ruter can further expand functionality in its digital service offering to give the traveller better control over their journey and increase the feeling of security before and during the journey.

The proposal does this by considering that not everyone sets the same criteria for route choice. It also includes functionality to help the customer find the right stop and vehicle, as well as keep track of the progress of the journey, and finally, get off at the right stop.

A
SEARCH CRITERIAS
Acknowledging that not all users want search results based purely on duration, we included several criteria based on findings we did during interviews. We found that i.e., transitions between different means of transportation may cause distress.
B
COMMIT TO JOURNEY
By enabling the user to commit to a journey, Ruter can provide a more case specific service offering. This feature seems simple but is crucial to transform the service from a planning app to a travel companion.
C
LIVE INFORMATION
In addition to selection and planning, our proposal includes live situation based information, giving the user a greater level of confidence during travel.
